With Gratitude

As much as I am personally against giving in to the marketing-driven hype around Christmas and refuse to even consider decorating my home until the week before, if at all, I can’t help but be a lot more enthused this year as volunteer with the Hastings Food Bank. We have been organizing for the Christmas Hampers that will be given out to ensure that the families that depend on us have all the makings for their own Christmas dinners plus a little extra thanks to initiatives such as the Angel Tree at the Captain’s Table.  We’ve submitted a list to Todd’s ValuMart, and Todd and his staff are checking it at least twice as they fill brown paper bags with all sorts of goodies for the Cram the Cruiser event coming up on Dec 14th. Thank you, to all those involved in facilitating this event.

Our Spaghetti dinner and Silent Auction was a huge success in October, thanks to everyone that came out and feasted on our fare, and to all the volunteers who put in untold hours to make it happen. We actually had some rave reviews! Check out some pictures on our events page.

We’d like to thank Banjo’s restaurant once again for their food drive held last month, it was a most welcomed surprise. Trinity United church raised and donated over $200 at the Roseneath fair and another surprise donation was received last week from Lesley Blayney and the Warkworth Gratitude Project Team with $400 of their proceeds being allocated to our Food Bank. Every donation helps to fill our shelves and we are grateful for your support.

The Food Bank is staffed and run by a small core of volunteers. Some longstanding volunteers have moved away or on to other things over the past few months. We’d like to thank the Venne’s, Darlene and Orien for all their contributions over the years, including organizing the Christmas Hampers in the past, as well as Gary, Lori, Bonnie, Kathy. Thank you all for volunteering and we wish you well in your future endeavors.

If you have a few hours a month to spare and would like to volunteer with us, check out our website Hastingsfoodbank.org, or email us at Hastingsfoodbank@gmail.com
